This is the first official note on the forum, and a good place to start if you are new here.
Towntrek is for your town — the shops, trades, events, and people Google does not keep up to date. This forum is where that community can talk to each other, not only look things up.
How to use the forum
- Switch town at the top, or browse all towns if you want a wider view.
- Start a topic for news, questions, recommendations, or buy / sell / swap.
- Use Like or Thanks when a post helps.
- Follow a topic if you want an email when someone replies.
- See something off? Report it — town admins and Towntrek can step in.
Keep it neighbourly. No spam, no arguing in public, and no posting other people’s details. If you would not say it over the counter, do not post it here.
What’s new
- Photos on topics. Business accounts on Basic or higher can attach up to 5 photos (they share your listing image slots). Handy for a special, a lost-and-found, or a bakkie-for-sale.
- All-towns browsing. You can stay in one town, or skim conversations across TownTrek.
- Town admins. Some towns now have a local admin for notices and a bit of moderation — so the town is not waiting on us for every update.
- Listings and events. Businesses, services, creative spaces, property, and events still live on TownTrek, including on the Android app.
If you run a local business
A free Basic listing is still R0 — one live listing, no card required. The forum is a simple way to tell the town you are open, on special, or looking for help. If you are already listed, you do not need a second account; sign in and post.
If you live here
Ask for a plumber. Recommend the Saturday market. Share what is on this weekend. The more this forum is used for real town talk, the more useful Towntrek becomes — for you and for the businesses around you.
